I think it's worse when depression passes. Because all the things that will never get better, all the things you hate about yourself, all the things you have no hope for, the future you'll never have, and all the blame you put on yourself for it, none of that stops being real. You're just able to push them to the back of your mind again.

My first attempt at hand carving the Seattle Kraken logo into rubber to make a stamp for my journal. Not great... but I don't hate it.
Oh, should probably provide a reference for what the logo looks like. *hastily makes icon* There! I will take a few more stabs are getting the center tentacle right, but also... is not terrible.

Short but oh, so sweet
This time last year, I took Husband for a blood test, prepped for the following week at work, trying out Bee Simulator, and getting ready to finish Veilguard.
Today started with crumpets and real coffee as is tradition. The rest of the morning was spent cleaning and having a bath. Oh, and popping round to the shop for sellotape because goodness only knows what's happened to the rolls we already had in! But I did have a chat with the lad that works there about different tastes in gaming. He's all about online FPS games but it does mean he's connected with his cousins on both sides of the pond.
Not long after dinner my parents arrived, swiftly followed by Sil with Younger Grandson and Granddaughter <3 YG opened his presents and blew out his three candles. GD hovered around grabbing hold of anything he dropped :D He definitely liked Zurg, Jessie and Bullseye. I was very glad I'd snipped off most of the bits of wire and elastic before wrapping them. And the little ones sat very quietly whilst eating their cake! There really is a first time for everything.
I think they were only here for 90 minutes or so when Sil reappeared to take them home. But it was lovely to see them, and they were both in a very good mood with us and each other.
When they'd gone we watched Traitors: Ireland and then had tea. Then I cleaned the kitchen and came upstairs whilst the boys watched the match. Liverpool managed a win!
And I managed to finish Ghost of Yotei. What. A. Game! So beautiful and such a moving story. I cannot say enough good things about it. When the credits had rolled (which included a mention of Playstation, Liverpool!), I checked the trophies and there are two I'll never get in a million years, so I'm not going to worry about the Plat. There are some that are doable and would give me a reason to stay in Ezo, and no other games are really pulling at me.
I finished the night by prepping my paper journal for the coming week and watching the first episode of Seven Dials.

Spent this whole week getting over a cold due to Sunday's snow, thankfully the worst of it is over and I just have some stuffy nose problems left. Thank goodness, my head felt like it was swimming half the time o/; When I could keep my attention tho, I was able to fill my time with reading, games, and music.
Properly listened to Rico Nasty's latest album Lethal, and I am a big fan now. Went back thru her discography and I love all the genre blending she does <3_<3
Got hooked on the soundtrack for Heated Rivalry as well and Bad Things by Cailin Russo is my absolute favorite. It will have the honor of being the next song lyrics I use to title a fic (Jack/Will PotC).
I went back into LJ and website archives to read Jack/Will fanfic from 2004 and so on - I'm so grateful I'm still able to access these epics. Shout out to the Wayback machine so I could experience The Pirate Way. Also! Manips! It's been so long since I've been in a live action fandom, I forgot how prevalent they were. It's been really lovely.
I finished!! My first 300+ page book this year. The Traitor and The Wretch was everything I wanted it to be. I got to the ending and audibly whined out loud to my wife, who was sitting next to me, "I don't want it to be over!" In the best of ways, I have so many questions about the world Jasmine Walls has set up - I would gobble up a sequel whole heartedly. Does it need one? Not necessarily, I was satisfied with the ending. It felt very much earned after everything Percy and Knell have been through. But I would love to see them in that next phase of their life. Their chemistry as a developing couple over time hooked me harddddd.
Since my headspace didn't line up with the rest of Snowflake this year, I'll just let it rest. I did see a new challenge being promoted: Stuff I love: Top Ten Edition that is all about squee and sharing your excitement every week in February [eyes emoji]
Otherwise, it's so, so, so cold over here. Having tofu and zucchini curry with rice for dinner tonight, and staying in.

2026 Winter Anime Season First Impression
Jotting down some thoughts on this season's anime series since I didn't do a preview for this season.
Champignon no Majo: Western fairy-tale-esque fantasy about a poison witch called the Champignon Witch who cannot touch anyone and is feared by just about everyone in town. She tells herself that she's content and happy with what she's got, though it's not hard to tell that she yearns for human companionship. The set-up reminds me a bit of Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid. This one turns out to be a pleasant surprise. There is an ongoing main plot that wasn't revealed till episode 3. The reveal regarding the identity of the narrator is quite neat.
Eris no Seihai: Court intrigue and conspiracies with many moving pieces and characters. The visual is decent if unexceptional, but the story more than makes up for it. Episode 1 serves as a prologue, and the main plot begins in episode 2. The pacing of this series feels a bit off to me, as if there were scenes being skipped. I'm guessing it has to do with the way the novel series was written. (Note: I haven't read the novels.) The main plot is very intriguing so far.
Fate strange/Fake: Another Fate spin-off, this time written by Narita Ryogo (Baccano!, Durarara!!). The writing is about what I would expect from Narita Ryogo. The visual looks great; the multiple delays probably helped. The anime delivers what it promises and nothing more. I find this one playing it a little too safe, but maybe that's just me -- or I've gotten jaded where Type-Moon franchises were concerned.
Isekai no Sata wa Shachiku Shidai: BL isekai about a workaholic salaryman being transported to another world when he tried to save a high school girl -- and he's not the one the summoning party wanted. The visual is average at best, but the romance plot is quite good if predictable. This one scratches the BL itch for me.
Oshi no Ko Season 3: If you've watched the first two seasons, you already know what to expect here. Great OP sequence.
Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu.: Death game from Studio Deen, with a dream-like aesthetic, a slow, measured pacing closer to a psychological horror, and minimalistic background music. The result is quite haunting. This one is directed by Ueno Sota, who also directed 2024's Gimai Seikatsu, which I really liked. This is the most interesting series I've watched so far this season. Blood and gore is replaced with foam instead, but the body horror is very much there. The first episode in particular is very tough to watch if you go into this one blind like I did. I couldn't quite decide whether the main character is being genuine, manipulative, or both.
(Side note: I've read two infinite flow/death game cnovels lately. The cultural difference between one written by a Chinese author and one written by a Japanese author is quite interesting. Cnovels tend to be more positive in their outlook, while J-novels have a tendency to be quite despairing and pessimistic regarding humanity in general.)
Ikoku Nikki: Drama from studio Shuka, about a fifteen-year-old girl who'd lost her parents being taken in by her novelist aunt, who prefers to be alone and doesn't like dealing with people. This one isn't a tearjerker; it's closer to slice-of-life as the two main characters try to adjust and adapt to their new lives together. I haven't really formed an opinion on whether I like this one or not. Most of the time I'm left feeling as though I'm looking at these characters through a veil.
Haven't caught up with Sousou no Frieren season 2 yet.

But still, I dont think that in just 9 days, she could memorize their recipes, so much of their personality and such like, everything she says feels very specific.
I wonder if they will pull something similar to Maki Persona 1.
Though neither Nozomi nor Karua feel "ideal", and neither does their lives or this scenario. If she wants to be liked or similar, why pick a war out all things?
There are better places you could daydream about, though I guess it all comes down to her mother's research, self-sacrifice being in her eyes a way (maybe the only) to connect with others (assuming Nozomi is the real and Karua is the ideal)

Now for realsies, my first route!!
I got my first actual HNDR route 🎉🎉
This was one of the things that I was most excited about, it felt the same as when you were 9 and doing the PMD personality test at the start of the game :p
The other day I saw a tweet saying "Your first Hundred Line route determines your soul btw" and I can't agree more haha.
It made me cry, but I grew attached to Darumi and ghost boy in r0 so I'm very happy I somehow ended landing in a route centered in them. So I'm very satisfied with the result, I couldn't ask for more. Please let me continue taking care of Darumi...!
The Eito moments at the end were very cool as well, I'm excited to see more of him in the next routes he's so fun (thought rn I think I will complete at least half of the Retsnom endings before moving onto another)
Something I'm sad about is that from what I have heard, the twins don't have a route...? 😭 Kako-Darumi-Ghost are my favs.... They made 100 endings and couldn't think about anything that could make them shine? I really like them and want to know more about their story, F 💔
Back on my route, during the school split, I was very conflicted because I felt the good decision was to try save them, but I was worried about anything bad happening to either Kako or Darumi so I sacrificed the 2nd school.
Regretted it after choosing because I love its charas, but in the end I'm glad my intuition was right.
But now I dont wanna save them if it means Darumi will die lol
She was what made me interested in the game, so I owe her too.
Outside the direct, the 1st thing I saw of the game was the "no men in the yuri zone" screenshot & I thought she was a funny dyke and it made me curious about the game again, but now I just want to cradle her in my arms 😢
