books, bots, and some other thoughts
oh it has been a rather busy summer (god can't believe the fall semester is right around the corner already...) but my journeys come bearing exciting things:
i went to an indie bookstore with my sis and i saw on the high shelf above all the various children's books
This beauty
I have to admit I almost screamed in the store because it was like HOLY SHIT but i remained quiet and respectful! Excitement contained!!
BUT OH LA LA, A SURPRISE AT THE FINISH LINE! the store clerk peeked inside and saw the condition and went, "eh, this can be a freebie"
Like I would have still paid good money for this but thank you Mr. Shop keep, please know that I, lala, shall keep their romantic legacy going on strong (the Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey analysis journal is sitting in my drafts because god, it fumbles a lot but you don't understand how much romance is embedded in that film. Also cause it made me wonder on how the final boy trope functions alongside the role of the final girl. Like with final girls it's usually an award of sorts for "most conservative girl" since she doesn't have sex or break any other "rules", and i noticed that with the final boy, usually an outside force is trying to change the boy into a sort of mother/feminized role, kind of like in Alien and The Thing, or trying to essentially pull a sort of Peter Pan on the boy and blocking out forces that will "mature" him like—
These thoughts are building because I am a speaker of romance for bears and boys that is also apparently incestuous andjust like mother 3 i feel like i've said that before but the synopsis for the sequel is quite literally the plot of mother 3, so you can bet ur ass i'm excited to watch that)
ANYHOW, recently I was rewatching You're Being Summoned Mr. Azazel and I was curious to see if anymore of the manga had been translated since I first watched the series and it had!
In Russian!
Which I don't speak!
But we do what we gotta do for our ships, so I spent a good week slowly going through a Cyrillic keyboard and cross referencing translations and using context clues and going mad over the l character because it's stylized version just looks so different BUT REGARDLESS....SEXY SUCCESS and then I was made aware I could have probably just taken pictures and had google translate do it's thing but non.... it was a beautiful experience...
and pretty fun! I still get a good portion of the letters mixed with the Latin pronunciations and I'll for sure need to get some grammar books, but I found it pretty neat and want to continue practicing with it. So another book I picked up at the book store is this (I'm assuming) book of poems that seemed like it could make for good hands-on practice!
Also inside was this little note which just felt so movie-esque... an adventure happened in these words.... very exciting...
I should also get some books for Japanese that way I can (finally) understand what is going on in the fan novels I have... like, can I go off vibes? Yes, oh for sure do not underestimate the way love transcends boundaries, but it would be cool to have a better understanding of the language. I'm also trying to brush back up on my Spanish and changing the subs to Spanish when I'm able OH HOLY FUCK HEY I COULD FINISH READING SUKEBAN DEKA IF I LEARN ENOUGH JAPANESE.... sorry that's super exciting cause holy shit i love that series from what i was able to read... reminds me that I want to check out the tv show and anime ova that was released... the power of language really is magnificent....
Another exciting development: I got my first gundam kit! I've started working on it a little and oh there are so many parts, but the instructions are very thorough so I feel that I will do good, and it has been rewarding connecting the right pieces together!
And incredibly horrofying when I accidently snap a piece out of the tray and it goes flying toward the floor and Machete's head snaps in my direction wondering if I dropped a treat (I didn't, please do not try to eat the pieces Machete, Setsunyan needs Exia to be safe).
And finally: I finished Yu Yu Hakusho not too long ago and god I adored it so much TuT I'm excited to watch the anime original movie that they made, alongside with the ova and reading the manga to see how the final arc was presented differently, but oh I loved it so much, especially a lot of the framing in the final episodes TuT I actually have a small analysis with Mukuro and Hiei in my journal drafts because they just... god how do I even start.... but romance... also everyone wants to fuck Yusuke like this is my vision but my god the final arc was so good and beautiful at cementing that Yu Yu Hakusho is just Ging's teen years and we are finding out who is the baby daddy that helped create Gon
